The challenge
Peticures Grooming, PetJet’s chain of boutique grooming stores, had built a strong local reputation and wanted to turn it into a national position. The ambition covered four fronts at once: more physical locations, a deal with a major big-box retailer, a training business for professional groomers, and a listings platform for the wider pet industry.
Each of these would normally be its own project. Run in parallel, they competed for the same capital and management attention, and stand-alone store openings in particular were expensive to scale. The company needed a single plan that sequenced the work and made each piece reinforce the others.
The work
Store expansion and a retail alliance
We ran a market analysis to identify the most attractive locations for new stores, alongside a competitive review of how Peticures could differentiate in each new market. That produced an expansion plan, which we then helped execute. In parallel, we opened partnership talks with a big-box retail chain and brokered an agreement for Peticures to operate smaller boutique stores inside the chain’s existing locations — extending the footprint without the cost of free-standing sites.
An online training platform for groomers
Working with e-learning developers from our network and with experienced groomers, we built a training platform and its curriculum, covering the profession from hygiene and safety through to styling technique. The platform was designed to be sold on subscription.
An industry listings platform
We assembled the design and development team for a pet-industry listings site, where pet businesses list their services and owners find the right provider. The launch was promoted through Peticures’ existing customer channels and social media.
The outcome
The big-box partnership alone delivered a 45% increase in foot traffic and a comparable increase in sales, and the expansion grew the customer base well beyond the original stores. The training platform attracted groomers from across the country and became a recurring subscription revenue stream, positioning Peticures as a reference point for grooming education. The listings platform passed 5,000 listings in its first six months, generating meaningful traffic and opening an advertising revenue line.
Taken together, the work moved Peticures from a single-channel retailer to a diversified business with physical, education and platform revenue.
