The challenge

In 2015, BC Remit needed to scale an international money-transfer business and move into new markets. Remittance is a business where infrastructure has to grow with demand, data must be secure and compliant across jurisdictions, and new features have to ship without disrupting live transactions. Alongside the technology, the company’s ownership structure was due to change.

The work

Cloud foundations

We designed and set up BC Remit’s initial infrastructure on Amazon Web Services, chosen for four reasons:

Scalability — capacity can grow or shrink with transaction volumes;
Security and compliance — a platform aligned with a wide range of industry standards;
Global reach — data-centre coverage to serve customers in new markets;
Support — access to AWS expertise to get running quickly.

Ownership change

We supported the negotiation of a partnership buyout.

Ongoing advisory

Since the buyout, we have continued to advise on growth marketing, financial structuring, corporate matters and shareholder communications, and have helped the company develop new products and services for its customers.

The outcome

BC Remit runs on a scalable, secure cloud architecture with lower IT costs and the ability to add features and services quickly. The buyout was completed successfully, and the company has continued to grow into new markets, establishing itself as an international money-transfer provider.
